Social Deli
For Social Deli, a wine bar delicatessen located in the center of Athens, we opened up the restaurant to a gallery, to emphasise the public character of the place. The store, a 40sqm space sitting on the ground floor of a 1930s building, features a storefront facing a busy street, while its west side offers views and access to the gallery. These features were key tools for the architectural approach.

One of the main aims during the design and construction of the store was to stay true to the historic architecture of the building. To achieve this goal, we preserved the original metal window frames, while at the same time we highlighted architectural elements that had been altered by previous construction interventions.

Inside the store, the layout of the space was treated as a geometric volume that receives the uses of the bar and kitchen, storage, display and sanitary areas, in prominent view from the street and the gallery space. The design followed clean lines and materials based on metal and wood, which agree with and highlight the existing architecture of the space.
