Micro apartment revamp

In this 40m2 flat located near the busy port of Piraeus in Athens, the clients asked for a space where domestic and professional life could blend, without losing the cozy feeling of a small apartment. The space should accommodate two people for sleeping and working.

We proposed to consolidate the separate rooms and uses into a single space; Living room, dining room, office and kitchen have a direct relationship with each other while in-between walls are demolished to make the space appear larger. A table between kitchen and living room can operate as a desk or a dining table according to the time of the day. The table and the luminaire above it can turn around an imaginary axis, changing position and seating layout.

A bright color palette of light blue greys and off whites, is combined with a wooden floor to create a warm cozy feeling. A special pattern for the kitchen floor tiles emphasizes the interconnection between the dining table and the living room. In the toilet, all the utilities are fixed on the walls in order to leave the floor free of furniture, while a wall to wall mirror maximizes the space. The enlargement of exterior windows allows more sunlight to enter the apartment and create a visual connection with the garden outside.
